How do Fixed Cellular Terminals Cut the Cost of Calls to Mobile Phones?

When a call from a landline phone or PBX is made to a mobile the call has to traverse two networks - the landline network and the mobile network. So the bill from the landline network supplier includes a termination charge imposed on the landline network from the mobile network operator. In the UK the current average cost of calling mobiles from landlines costs 16p/min.

By routing calls via the Burnside FCT, calls from the landline telephone or PBX extension can then routed directly to the GSM network thereby avoiding the double charge imposed by the landline operator. This is not the only way to reduce all charges.
The choice of mobile tariff then determines the only cost of calling mobile phones. The lowest call costs can be achieved by using a tariff that offers 'inclusive call minutes'. Some inclusive call minute tariffs like the T-Mobile Daytime 3000 reduce calls costs to other T-Mobile phones, local or national landlines to as little as 0.6 p/min if all inclusive minutes are used each month.

A Burnside FCT can be connected to a PBX trunk. However the PBX must be capable of automatically routing calls to mobiles to the trunk to which is connected the FCT. If the PBX is not capable of automatic routing then the Burnside LCR is a solution to this problem.
