Burnside's founder David Robson is the first winner of the GRIST Award [Great Ideas in Science and Technology] granted by the University of Surrey. Other companies he has started include Cambridge Computer Graphics and International Medical Corporation.
IPR Industries Ltd is an investor in Burnside Telecom. IPR’s founders also founded Technophone Ltd – the company that designed the world’s first truly pocket-sized cellular telephone. When Technophone was sold to Nokia in the early 1990s, it was the 4th largest manufacturer of mobile phones in the world.
