Burnside T940L Provides Automatic Fallback for Critical Telecare Alarm Equipment

Telecare and Telehealth equipment enable many people to remain independant at home who would otherwise have to be cared for in a hospital or care home. Sensors in the home can detect falls, bed wetting, fire, gas leaks, manual activation of an alarm trigger or many other incidents and communicate this information to a monitoring centre. Telehealth equipment provides remote physiological monitoring by clinicians for those suffering from long term conditions. Most Telecare and Telehealth equipment in the UK use the landline network as a communications link. However there are an increasing number of homes without landlines or where a landline is vulnerable to deliberate disconnection as in domestic violence situations. Burnside Fixed Cellular Terminals are widely used to provide communications over GSM mobile networks as an alternative to landline networks.
The latest Burnside terminal T940L also has connnection to the PSTN landline network. Since the failure of the communications link could be life threatening the ability of any communications equipment to automatically fall back to an alternative route provides a much greater chance of that important call for help getting through to the call centre. The Burnside T940L in normal mode connects the Telecare alarm equipment to the centre by landline. In the event of a landline failure the T940L will provide an immediate connection to the centre over the mobile network.
