Performance Certification - PESQ
The commonly accepted speech quality test used in the telephony
and GSM industries is the Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality
Listening Quality test (PESQ-LQ). This test uses a standard
International Telecommunications Union algorithm (ITU-T P.862.1) to
measure the one-way, end-to-end speech quality of services over
analogue, VoIP, and GSM networks. The derived measurements include
a listening quality mean opinion score (PESQ-LQ MOS) and take into
account various quality impairments, such as noise, clipping and
frame muting.
The PESQ-MOS ranges from 1.0 (worst) to 5.0 (best), with GSM
handheld mobiles typically scoring between 3.0 and 4.0. At
Burnside, we have taken great care to design our products to
minimise the factors that degrade speech quality: Burnside
Crystal™ technology includes noise reduction and echo
cancellation features. In addition, the external antennas that
feature in our fixed cellular terminals and phones are capable of
optimising GSM signal reception to provide the best available
input. As a result of our innovative designs, Burnside products
have been rated with a PESQ-MOS of 4.5, far exceeding typical
mobile phone scores.
