Burnside Technology for Marine Applications

Obviously, the lack of landlines on the sea presents communications challenges for all kinds of craft. Historically, the answer has been to use ship-to-shore and ship-to-ship VHF radio systems, and of course these must still be used in many situations. But with the increasing development of GSM mobile communications, combined with technology developed by Burnside, some of the particular problems faced by ships and yachts can now be addressed.

On larger craft, such as cruise yachts and passenger ships, providing phone connections for passengers and crew has never been straightforward: this can be overcome by using Burnside's Fixed Cellular Phones, which use the GSM mobile network to bridge communications to land. Smaller craft (for example, sailing yachts, fishing vessels) can use Burnside Fixed Cellular Terminals to provide the same communications, but also to raise alarms in the event of failure of on-board systems or attempted theft.*
